Sometimes we just need something to give us that extra push. For me its sometimes a book, or just a quote. This week, it was this video right here. The 15 minutes spent will be well worth it.
For years I struggled trying to find myself. Have I found myself? Not entirely but I feel a lot closer than where I was five years ago. In my line of work I meet a lot of individuals who struggle with what they want to do in life; resumes that have little or no focus and some are just confused, BUT I can tell you from experience, that if you don’t figure out what you want to do in life - you will continue to be lost. I was there once and it is not a fun place to be. Although my career history has not been that extensive, I have been fortunate enough to work with a company albeit small, that allowed me to gain experience working in different areas: accounting, purchasing, sales, office management and human resources. This experience was invaluable because it allowed me to determine the areas that I liked and those that I did not like. Very briefly, I thought I liked Finance or maybe it was the earning potential that a career in finance would bring that piqued my interest, so I started the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) certification – that was short-lived. Anyways, my point is - FIND YOUR PASSION. Don't choose a career that your parents want for you, or one that will make you the most money. Choose one that you will be passionate about. As the wise teacher Confucius said, " choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life." There are lots of ways to find your passion, perhaps I can discuss in a later post. It’s ok to dabble in different careers but eventually you will need to narrow your focus and find a career that you enjoy. |
